The Deserts of Kharak Collector’s Edition
A look at the exclusive concept art within
I finally got my Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak Collector’s Edition in, all the way from Poland. I really, really wish there was an English version available, but to my knowledge there isn’t. The collector’s edition features a game DVD, a CD soundtrack, a DoK T-shirt, 3 stickers (Coalition and Gaalsien logos + the ‘Angel Moon’ DoK logo), a physical manual, and…the holy grail: a DoK art book filled with amazing concept art, some of it which I have never seen before. Perhaps I’ve missed it, or perhaps it’s new. Either way, I’ve taken the best photos I could of it and uploaded here for everyone to see! I’ll also be putting a couple of exclusive pieces (like the Gaalsien Hardware: Shipbreakers fleet) on our Patreon, so if you’re a current patron you’ll get an extra treat – thanks for your support!
As with all of our art feature posts, I’ll be using a magazine-style, fullscreen layout designed to showcase the art for aficionados with 3k+ displays. It isn’t likely to render well on mobile – and mobile is no place to be viewing art. Please forgive the lower quality images, these are photos of the art book of concept art I haven’t been able to find online, hence have no digital version of.
WTB More Art
I love game art books (I own a big stack, including multiple copies of the ‘Art of Homeworld’ and the Collector’s Edition featured above!) and I wish this awesome DoK ‘Dune Sea’ collection was available outside of Poland, but sadly, aside from a few copies floating around on eBay, us non-Poles are out of luck for now. Perhaps I’ll spearhead a petition for Homeworld 3 + more artbooks in the near future. GB did say that if I presented such a petition, they might be forced to listen…
Much Respect
A special thanks to Brennan Massicotte, Cody Kenworthy, Rob Cunningham, and Aaron Kambeitz for the incredible art above (I don’t read Polish so I’m unable to credit who to what on a piece by piece basis!). I think the Homeworld (all games) art is some of the best I’ve seen, and anytime we get more I’m like a kid with new Legos. Deserts of Kharak is a work of art, both in concept and in-game. Kudos to the above artists and to Blackbird Interactive for making such a masterpiece!
